Black Skimmers have scattered themselves around Sunset Beach, perhaps frightened by fireworks or overwash from a high tide. This makes them harder to protect. The chicks are the color of sand and have an odd habit of hiding in holes in the sand, so please be careful where you walk. Portable signs set up by Eckerd College (who monitors these things every season) remind visitors to keep an eye out for chicks.
